IntoxiGraph

Have you heard that we process about a drink an hour?  Well, not exactly.  The type and size of the drinks, amount of food, and timing mean that rule of thumb doesn't work!

IntoxiGraph is an iPhone and iPod touch app that simulates alcohol absorption and metabolism and displays a graph of your Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) over time.  Using IntoxiGraph while drinking gives you the information and opportunity to make better decisions.

Know when you’ve reached your limit with IntoxiGraph. Avoid embarrassing or dangerous situations and expensive legal trouble. Simply input the drinks and food you eat and IntoxiGraph creates a personalized real-time graph of your Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) to let you know when you’ve HAD ENOUGH. More than just fun and interesting – this tool can help you and your friends make better decisions while drinking.

IntoxiGraph contains one of the most sophisticated BAC simulations available on any platform.  Did you know that food can delay the absorption of alcohol, thereby dramatically reducing your peak BAC?  A large meal can reduce your peak BAC by half.  IntoxiGraph incorporates the food you eat to provide a much more accurate calculation.

IntoxiGraph has four configurable profiles so you and up to three friends can use IntoxiGraph at the same time. One beta tester said "...this will be one [app] I use...not just because of the info factor but it was a fun social app too.  We had all kinds of people at the bar wanting updates from us as to how our graphs were doing as the night went on and had a great time."

This video was made using the simulator, not a real iPhone or iPod touch device. On a real device you can zoom the graph in or out using multi-touch pinch/spread gestures.

Safety

People aren't very good at estimating their own BAC.  Most people feel the effects of alcohol early on, but then get used to the feeling quickly whereas their BAC declines slowly.  So they end up thinking they're less intoxicated than they really are.  Learning about how your body processes alcohol can help you avoid drinking too much.

Breath Alcohol Testers

Many breath alcohol testers are unreliable.  A published magazine article shows one device reading 0.01 when another was reading 0.06.  Accurate ones can cost over $600.

Compared to breath alcohol testers, IntoxiGraph is more economical, convenient to carry, discreet to use, and doesn't require mouthpieces, which can be messy and unsanitary.  IntoxiGraph is also more flexible in that it enables "what if" scenarios and shows the BAC curve over time.

IntoxiGraph has one of the most sophisticated models available for human alcohol consumption and clearance.  Given accurate inputs, IntoxiGraph can be more accurate than some breath alcohol testers.

Additional features:

  • Includes multiple food and drink items, their start time, and your height, weight, age, and gender.
  • Database of over 500 mixed drinks, liquors, and beers.
  • BONUS: includes over 120 popular mixed drink recipes.
  • Metric and English (USA) units.
  • Optional advanced parameters include body fat percentage and alcohol metabolism rate, for even more accuracy.
  • And more!

Disclaimer

Do not drink and drive. Having your BAC under the legal limit does not mean you are safe to drive, nor does it mean you are safe legally. In most places (including the USA) you can still be convicted of DUI even if you are under the limit.

IntoxiGraph can inform you about alcohol processing, but you cannot rely on it for important decisions because though it may be accurate on average, it cannot be accurate for every individual and scenario. See the help document for more information about accuracy.
